For those who stay in town during summer, come join a chat with Oxford alumni & Beijing-based British young writer Alec Ash for the launch of his book “Wish Lanterns: Young Lives in New China” at M Talks China.

Alec studied English literature at Oxford, where he edited “The Isis” magazine and hitchhiked to Morocco. After graduating he taught in a Tibetan village in west China before moving to Beijing in 2008.

In 2012, he founded a “writer’s colony” — the Anthill. He is also a stringer for The Economist and 1843, a blogger for the Los Angeles Review of Books.

“Wish Lanterns” is a literary nonfiction book about “post-80s” generation in China, and has been selected as a BBC Radio 4 Book of the Week.

You can find more about him and his book at www.alecash.net.

M Talks China is a talk series at Shanghai’s landmark restaurant M-on-the-Bund that invites distinguished China hands and Chinese movers shakers to share their views on China.
